I also appreciated how he managed to defeat the villain without threatening the villain or chasing him. Instead, he used insinuation.

Heyer subtilly emphasized the limitations of women during this era. Leonie isn't happy trading in her breeches for layers of petticoats and skirts, she refuses to ride side-saddle and is constantly shooting dead villains (even even though it's a risky job). Avon is initially uncomfortable with her rebellious behaviour but he soon learns to be in love with her.

I did find it difficult to keep track of who was who in the beginning, as Heyer refers to the Duke by several different names in the initial pages. Once you have figured it out the book becomes more comprehensible. The book was amazing and I highly recommend it. If you're a fan Georgette Heyer or simply enjoy an enjoyable romance I can assure you that you will not be disappointed!

Avon's Relationship to Davenant

He is also beginning to treat Rupert with a bit more consideration, too. He doesn't want to make her jealous of his relationship with Leonie but he gently reminds her to be more careful in her future relationships.
