It removes a lot of debris on unfinished floors and does a good job of maneuvering itself, but it doesn't come close to matching the iRobot Roomba i7 in terms of performance on carpeted floors. The i7 also feels more sturdy, is more durable, requires less maintenance, has lower recurring costs and charges faster and has similar battery performance. It also comes with more advanced technology for automation, such as areas that are not accessible and the ability to choose specific rooms to be cleaned.

This robot mop/vac combo is a rare find, because it can do both tasks extremely well. IRobot's Combo j7+ offers all the features of its j7-based counterpart, including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping but with additional features for both mopping and vacuuming.

It's easy to set the schedule for cleaning and adjust what the j7+ does when its dust container is full. The j7+ can also be controlled by voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant and other. to make it hands-free. Additionally, the app lets you create and look at maps of your home.

The j7+ performed well in our tests on both carpeted and hard floors, getting rid of most of the dirt we tossed at it. It isn't able to deal dealing with pet hair, large debris and sand. But it is able to clean them with a little more effort. It has excellent navigational skills and two cliff sensors that prevent it from falling down the stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did find some minor issues with the j7+. These include that it can snag on cords and rugs, and that it doesn't always turn off its mopping when it's finished vacuuming. This is a fantastic model that checks all the boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the Best Self-Emptying Vacuum self-emptying systems we've seen. It puts its 14oz 0.4-liter dust container into the base station where it will automatically empty itself for you to. This helps reduce the amount of trash you need to get rid of. You'll only need to replace the bag on the dock every 60 days, depending on how often you use the J7+.
