The S9+ is a new design by iRobot that concentrates on enhancing the edge and corner cleaning. It's the first Roomba that has a flat-fronted D-shaped design. The company hopes this will allow it hug furniture and walls. It's a nice improvement over the standard hockey puck shape of robovacs, but we found it to be marginally better than circular models.

iRobot also claims that the S9+ has an improved filtering system that stops tiny dust particles and allergens from recirculating within your home. We like the claim however, it's not enough to justify a premium price.

Its smart navigation system uses sensors that remember your home's layout and vSLAM technology for mapping the interior. This allows it to stay clear of obstacles, like staircases and other barriers, and to clean up your entire house in the most efficient manner possible.
